People talk about finding balance like it’s the secret to success. But here’s the truth: Balance doesn’t exist! I learned a long time ago that I’d never be able to do everything at once, and that’s okay. So I stopped trying to find this mysterious “balance” people spoke of, and I landed on a winning formula of my own instead.
I break my life into chunks and give each one my full attention. It lets me hyper-focus on one thing at a time, and it’s made me far more productive. When I’m at work, I’m 100% at work. My family knows it too - my husband has even impersonated a reporter just to get me on the line!
With so many distractions at our fingertips, I rank my daily To-Do list ‘A, B, C’ to keep myself on track. The As are the things that make me money and push my business ahead. The Cs are things that make me happy, like tending to my garden. Bs fall somewhere in between. My To-Do list becomes my agenda for the day, and I tackle the As first. Procrastination is the enemy of success, but nothing builds confidence and makes you feel like a million bucks like crossing off that big important task you’ve been putting off.
Then when I get home, I plug in my phone in the hallway and let it sit there all night! I stay totally focused on my family, and it’s my favorite part of the day.
So when I tell people “balance doesn’t exist,” what I really mean is, it doesn’t exist at one time. But by dedicating yourself 100% to whatever’s at hand, you can make the most of your day, both at work and at home.

Amen! Balance: work, pay your bills, give to church, find some quality time with your family, church on Sunday, watch some football repeat.
